Place is where the heart is - Placemaking for Community Venues

10 Placemaking Ideas for Community Venues Resource (1000 × 600px)

The word 'placemaking' can seem daunting. It has become a buzz word in the community sphere, but do we really know what it means? Placemaking experts demystified this topic in one of our Community Venue Learning Series webinars and boiled it down to a simple example: if homemaking is the process in making a house a welcome place to be, placemaking is its equivalent but for spaces. It's the process of turning a space into a place, strangers into friends, 'users' into collaborators.

Clarifying the philosophy of placemaking is one thing - providing practical ideas is another! Luckily, we at SpacetoCo have written up a FREE guide of 10 simple placemaking ideas for community venues that carry the mission of making a space welcoming. Pick and choose which ideas suit your venue, or use them as prompts to inspire your own ideas! Whatever the case, we hope that by undertaking the process of placemaking, you'll find that your place is where the heart is!
